Writing Instructions
1. Select an unfamiliar topic. 2. Read to find new information about your topic. 3. Brainstorm words which describe the behaviors, features, feelings, appearance, habits, habitats, etc... of your subject. 4. Reference a synonym tool (computer, or thesaurus) if you are struggling to find words which fit into the spelling of your topic. 5. Spell your topic VERTICALLY, then write in meaningful words which begin with each of the letters of your word. See example at right. *Challenge students to use words which define the essence of the topic. Often times, students use words which fit the starting letter, but their words don't say much about their topic. General words like, nice, wonderful, marvelous, etc... don't define much at all, so challenge students to use words that have meaning! |
